The post holder should have ability an d skills to manufacture small parts an d test rigs for teaching an d research purposes, an d to provide day-to-day management of the laboratory, including equipment management, safe laboratory an d workshop practice.QualificationsEssentialBachelor degree Ｏr equivalent in Mechanical / Material Engineering Ｏr related discipline;Good communication skills, including written an d spoken English;Confident in workshop / laboratory activities including basic manufacture like lathe, milling, drilling etc. an d experimental procedures in materials testing, solid mechanics, an d vibration analysis;Good Computer literacy;Competent in the design, construction an d commissioning of experimental rigs;Capable of carrying out maintenance an d calibration tasks;Ability to work independently when required;Experience in a laboratory based Mechanical Engineering with basic instrumentation;Experience in basic stock control an d equipment management;Good organisational an d time management skills;Excellent team-player;Ability to work independently when required;Health an d safety knowledgeCapable of the implementation of international safety standards in laboratories;DesirableMaster degree in Mechanical / Material Engineering Ｏr related discipline;Experience in using ME’scope an d SignalCalc an d Lab VIEW software;Experience with control systems （e.g. active noise/ vibration control systems） an d various sensors for mechanical systems;Overseas University working experience;Experience in multi-culture environment; Main Duties an d ResponsibilitiesTo provide support for teaching an d research in Mechanical Engineering product design an d Technical Services team;To complies with Health an d Safety procedures affecting self an d others.To provide day-to-day management of the laboratory, including equipment management, safe laboratory an d workshop practice;To maintain equipment an d work areas in a clean, tidy an d efficient condition;To manufacture small parts an d test rigs for teaching an d research purposes;To ensure the ordering an d safe disposal of materials, to work in an orderly manner;To monitors levels of stocks/stores of basic equipment an d supplies an d ensures that equipment, consumables an d work area are ready to use when required;To maintain accurate documentation of materials an d processes used, as reference material;To fulfil any other duties assigned by the line manager.To participate in training an d staff development events as trainer Ｏr trainee as appropriate;To maintain appropriate professional development, expertise an d awareness;This job description may be subject to revision following discussion with the person appointed an d forms part of the contract of employment.
